The longevity of a wig depends on how long and how often a person is wearing that wig. If they’re wearing it every day, we often recommend (sometimes) that you buy two wigs so that you have one for every day to knock around, and one to use when you get a little more dressed or things like that.
It really depends. A human hair wig can last you a year or more, or even longer. A synthetic can go 6 months or more, depending. It really depends on the individual and how [the wig’s] properly cared for, which is why we recommend that you bring it to us so that we can help you get that longevity.

Wearing a wig and caring for a wig is definitely different from your own hair, depending on whether you’re getting human hair or synthetic. Getting a synthetic fiber will take its own shape each time you wash it. The general rule of thumb is to wash it every 28 to 30 wearings. You wash it in a synthetic wig shampoo that we do carry here. That way, you’re not losing the luster or the shine, or anything like that, not causing frizzies on the fibers themselves.
When you do wash it, and you hang it to dry overnight, in the morning you literally just give it a shake and it goes back into its original style, just like that. That’s the benefit of a synthetic.
The benefits of human hair are, obviously, as wonderful as our synthetics are and they look just like human as well, but with the human hair, the feel of the human hair, the natural way that it lays on your head, and the way that it feels on your head. The advantage is that you can use heat on it. You can curl it, you can blow it dry, although we suggest that you bring it to us, the experts, to help do it, because we know best how to keep it from knotting up and keeping its luster and shine and staying in perfect condition.

In 2009, I lost my mother to breast cancer, and I was extremely depressed, under the covers, did not want to get up. My husband thought it would be a good idea to buy the salon for me, a chance for me to give back, to be back with other cancer patients and do things for them that I wasn’t able to do for my mother. And that’s really what it’s all about.

Pony wraps are very easy to use. They are ponytail holders wrapped in synthetic or human hair fibers that attach around a ponytail. They can be smooth, or sometimes the hair fibers are braided to give a little extra texture. Pony wraps are ideal when you have long hair for a ponytail, but perhaps not enough volume to pull out a section and wrap it around the ponytail holder. There are different cap constructions. This would be a basic machine-made, which is just a lightweight wig with open weftings inside the cap. It’s light and airy and breathes with your hair. That would be a basic cap construction.
Next, you have a monofilament cap construction, which again has the open weftings across the bottom and across the top. If you look at the top of the crown, the top of the head, it looks like a natural scalp; it looks very natural when someone’s above you or when you’re bending down. It’s really natural, and again, they’re all very lightweight.
Then you have a beautiful lace front, which you see a lot of on television because, if you look at this, and I put it on my hand and pull back the hair here in the front of the scalp, it actually looks like the hair is coming out of the scalp itself. It’s very natural around the face and hairline. You see a lot of this on TV and you cannot tell that these people are wearing wigs. Also, again, this is very lightweight.
The lightest weight of all is a monofilament lace front with hand-tied construction, which means it has the open weftings, all the fibers have been hand sewn, and it is extremely soft against the scalp, ideal for someone who doesn’t have hair. It is extremely, extremely lightweight, also again with the monofilament top so it looks natural, and the lace front as well. With the lace front, you have the option of wearing the bangs down or forward or straight back, and you’d never know the difference with the hair line. It’s really pretty awesome.

We carry a full array of turbans, hats; we carry UV protected hats, made by Wallaroo. They’re fabulous. They also tie on the inside so they’re adjustable to your head size, which is great when you don’t have hair.
We carry halos and face framers, which are basically just hair that has no top so that you can wear a hat or turban on top. We also carry a hat-and-hair, which is a baseball cap with hair attached. These are fabulous items for women who are going through chemo because you don’t always want to wear your wig when you’re running around to the supermarket and you want to throw something easy on, or even just relaxing around the house and someone comes to your door.
We carry products for women going through chemo, all natural products that can help keep your eyebrows and eyelashes, which is an amazing thing as opposed to stenciling an eyebrow on. These natural products make you look completely natural and feel better about yourself. We carry skin care products for the top of your scalp, because that’s often forgotten about when you don’t have hair. It helps keep moisture in. The products we carry will help with some of the discomfort of the hair falling out and also help to have the hair, the “regrowth,” growing evenly as opposed to in patches.
