How To Put On The Best Wig

One of the most fundamental skills you will need to use your wig is also one of the most powerful. A well-applied wig can be nearly indistinguishable from natural hair, is secure, comfortable, and will not slip or bunch during daily activities.

Applying the best wig is also easy, and with practice, can become fast and second-nature. We invite you to ask your boutique staff to demonstrate the process the first time you buy a wig, then refer to these steps to quickly and easily apply your hairpiece each morning.

  1. Mentally review your planned activities for the day. Generally, a wig can be worn without adhesives, but if you plan to do strenuous exercise or think your head may get appreciably wet, you may want to consider adding wig tape or glue.
  2. Wipe your forehead and hairline with alcohol and apply scalp protector if you will be using a wig adhesive. If not, you can skip this step.
  3. Put on a wig cap to hold your stray hairs in place, flatten existing hair, and give the appearance of a bare scalp under your wig. Pin into place, if needed.
  4. Apply the wig glue or tape around the perimeter of your hairline, if desired. Always follow the instructions that come with the adhesive and make sure you are using the correct type for your wig. Lace-fronts, for example, are delicate and should not be used with hard-bond adhesives.Best Wig - How To Put It On | Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique
  5. Pin the hair on the front and sides of your wig away from the edges to avoid getting the strands caught under the band or on the adhesive as you put the best wig on.
  6. Place the wig on a flat surface inside-out (with the cap or lining facing up). You will style it later, so don’t worry about messing up the hair at this point.
  7. Touch the front of the best wig to the center of your forehead, then pull the back of the wig down to meet the nape of your neck. Make sure the tabs on the side are in front of your ears.
  8. Lightly press the edges of the wig around the hairline, if using adhesives. If you still have your natural hair, secure the wig with bobby pins.
  9. Adjust the Velcro strap inside the wig, if needed, to get a perfect fit.
  10. Style your hair as desired, using only brushes and products specifically designed to extend the life of your wig.

Different wigs may require different adhesives or slightly different methods of securing the fit. If you have never worn the best wig before or have recently purchased a new wig, ask your boutique staff to show you how to apply it to get the best and most secure fit.
