5 Wig Accidents to Avoid
5 Wig Accidents to Avoid
Wearing a wig isn’t difficult. When you combine a reputable boutique with knowledgeable staff and a skilled stylist who can customize your look, almost no one will be able to tell whether you’re wearing the best wig or having a great hair day.
There are, however, a few common mistakes that people who are new to wigs make that betray their secret. Whether you’re looking at a wig for the first time or would like to know why your friend’s hairpiece looks so much more natural than yours, here are a few tips to consider:
- Don’t buy the wrong size
One of the surest signs that a person is wearing a wig is when the wig slips out of place or bunches up in a way that natural hair does not. Although this is a common fear among new wig wearers, these events are generally signs of an ill-fitting wig – not a fault of the wig itself. Make sure you take your measurements accurately or ask your stylist or the Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique staff to help you.
- Avoid direct heat
You can ruin a synthetic wig by wearing it too close to intense heat. Avoid fireplaces, open oven doors and standing over boiling pots unless you purchase a heat-resistant wig and your boutique staff says its okay.
- Don’t go too bulky
Extra bulk near your crown is a sure sign of a wig, but can easily be prevented by making sure you buy a wig in the correct size and by taking it to a stylist who can thin it for a more natural look.
- Never have only one
Accidents happen and even well-maintained wigs need washed regularly and allowed to air-dry. Having a second wig can help you prevent a potentially embarrassing situation when guests come by unexpectedly while your primary wig is being washed, styled, or maintained.
