Main Line Pennsylvania
Main Line, PA is known to people from the area and people from outside the area may have heard it, but it isn’t on many maps. The reason for this is, rather than being a town, city, or borough, Main Line, Pennsylvania is a collection of Philadelphia suburbs. The name comes from the fact that these towns were built along the Maine Line Pennsylvania Railroad, which once ran northwest from downtown Philadelphia.
Traditionally, Main Line has been comprised of mostly affluent towns and cities. These communities are just outside of Philadelphia to a west and run along U.S. Route 30—we call it Lancaster Avenue here. This includes place like Bryn Mawr and Paoli, PA, a total area altogether of about 200 square miles. The area is ranked as the 14th highest per=capita income in the U.S. when compared against other areas with a population of more than 1,000.

While The Main Line Pennsylvania Railroad isn’t the same as it once was, it is still serviced and maintained by SEPTA. This is a quick and easy way for residents to travel through PA and into other states. U.S. Rout 30 is a major thoroughfare which connections a lot of the surrounding cities and is pretty much the major highway between areas although I-76 is nearby as well.
