Women love having hair. We love being able to play with it, try new styles, and whip it back and forth. When you experience hair loss, for whatever reason, it can be a very traumatic time in your life. You’re used to having the comfort your hair provides and it can be a hard adjustment without it. That’s why women’s wigs are so great!

Women’s Wigs in Philadelphia

You don’t have to be without hair! Wigs are the perfect way to cover any hair loss and it can be a fun way to shake up your look. But where do you even begin the process for women’s wigs in Philadelphia? At Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique, of course!

Benefits of Women’s Wigs

While the main benefit you will experience from wearing a women’s wig is covering up your hair loss, there is so much more to wearing a wig than just that:

  • Limitless style. With wigs, you can instantly change your look with the snap of your fingers. The best thing, you don’t have to make any serious commitments! If you change your natural hair, you have to wait for the color to fade or your hair to grow back out and those can take a long time. Wigs give you the freedom to try different looks without having to commit to something you don’t actually like.
  • You know you spend more time than is really necessary getting your hair perfectly styled to lay the way you want it to, whether you curl it, straighten it, or use a lot of product to give it that ‘just rolled out of bed’ look. With a wig, it’s already styled the way you want it, saving you a whole lot of extra time.
  • Wearing a wig in general is a fun way to spruce up your style. If you enjoy having to get “dressed-up,” wigs offer boundless opportunities to truly define your character.

Women’s wigs are also great in helping protect your natural hair. When you wear a wig, your natural hair gets a break from all the products and gets a chance to breathe again. If your hair is just growing back, wigs can help protect the baby hair from being potentially damaged.

Getting your first, and even getting your third and fourth, can be a nerve-racking and difficult process. There are so many different types of wigs to choose from and then there is the style and color to choose. When you first pick out your wig, you have to start with the most important element: the cap.

While the wig cap is a completely personal preference, it will benefit you if you have a sensitive scalp. Wig caps act as a protective barrier between your scalp and your wig. They also keep your wig comfortable and secure during everyday wear. You just need to know which cap constructions are best for you and this review can help you decide.

Cap Constructions in Review: Which is Best for You?

Types of Cap Constructions

While there are a variety of different cap construction types, here are the two most common types:

  • Wefted Caps – Also known as “capless,” wefted caps are the most common wig cap. These caps are constructed of rows made from synthetic fiber or real human hair that have been sewn together to create the shape of the wig. There is no underlying solid cap. Certain, higher end caps will feature a lace insert at the crown of the wig which allows you more natural styles since the hairs can move in any direction. A thin weft, a version of the wefted cap, is when the hair rows are spaced further apart. This is considered more breathable, but there is no lace insert and the underlying wefting is often visible when the hair is parted on the top.
  • Monofilament – The second most common wig cap is the monofilament cap. This cap is a wefted wig that features an insert of transparent micro-mesh sewn in at the crown with individual hairs or synthetic fibers hand-tied to the mesh. This style creates ventilation and doesn’t allow a build-up of heat and moisture. Monofilament caps are popular because they act and look like natural hair since it appears to grow out of your scalp. Your styling options with this cap are more flexible. These caps are specifically designed for people who have suffered significant hair loss due to medical reasons. For that reason, the monofilament cap is also known as the “medical wig.” However, you don’t have to have a medical reason to get a monofilament cap.

With the two most common wig cap types now in your mind, how do you know which is best for you?

The Right Cap Style for You

Like everything, there are pros and cons for each wig cap. Deciding which cap is right for you depends entirely on your personal preference in regards to fit, styling, and price. If you don’t plan on wearing your wig all the time, a wefted wig cap might be the option for you.

These wig caps are more suited to the occasional wear as opposed to daily wear, they cannot be restyled, and the cap does not mimic a human scalp. However, they are the perfect choice if you plan on wearing your wig only every once in awhile and you don’t want to spend too much money.

Monofilament cap constructions are designed for daily wear, can be styled differently every day, and appear very close to your natural scalp and hair. However, monofilament wig caps are more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved in creating them. If you are having trouble deciding on the perfect wig cap, call the wig experts at Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique today at (215) 725-3930.

Now that winter is starting to fade, and the weather is beginning to warm, it is the perfect time to spice up your look with fun hair accessories from Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique. Whether these accessories are to add to your already cute hairdo or cover up a bad hair day, here are 5 fun hair accessories for you to try:

Fun Hair Accessories at Rosalind Stella's

Bandanas

Bandanas, like hats, are a great way to disguise any bad hair days you have. Along with hiding your bad hair day, bandanas emphasize your cute, wispy baby hairs and add a nice flashback 90s flare. Bandanas aren’t expensive, so you can buy multiple colors and patterns. They can go with whatever mood you’re feeling and whatever outfit you have in mind.

Flowers

Having flowers added to your hairdo in the spring and summertime has been a staple fashion choice for many years. You have a lot of options when it comes to adding flowers to your hair. You can intertwine them into a crown, place individual flowers in varying places, braid your hair and scatter the flowers throughout the braid, and so much more.

Bobby Pins

Stand-alone bobby pins are not that cute and don’t add much to your look because they are mainly there to work and secure hair pieces. When you pair one bobby pin with a bunch of other bobby pins, you can try out different patterns. You can even go so far as to add bedazzled bobby pins to the mix to make your mane fun and flirty. Bobby pins are also not an expensive option.

Turbans

Like flowers, turbans are another spring and summertime staple. Summertime is a great time to experiment with different colors, fabrics, and knots in the turbans. The possibilities with turbans are limitless.

Temporary Hair Color

While not a physical hair accessory, temporary hair color is one of the best hair accessories you can have. The options for hair colors are endless. With temporary hair color, it’s easily changeable so you can have purple hair one week and blue hair the next. Since it is temporary, you can experiment all you want and not have to worry about being stuck with something you don’t like. If you don’t like it, wash it out and try something new.

The new year brings about changes and everyone’s favorite expression to use is “New Year, New You!” The new year is the perfect time to let go of everything that happened, or didn’t happen, in the previous 12 months. You can start fresh and make a better year for yourself. One way you can start the year off right for yourself is a new look. There’s no better time for choosing a new look than the new year and choosing a new look for 2018 all starts with the hair.

New Year, New You! Choosing A New Look for 2018

2018 Hair Trends

2018 is going to be the year where we embrace the no-fuss, natural textures with new and interesting haircuts. It’s the year of effortlessly stylish and who doesn’t love that? No matter which haircut you choose that fits your style, it’s bound to celebrate your natural beauty. Here are a few 2018 hair trends you might find work for you or inspire you to something new:

?        No-fuss bob. This haircut allows you to wash and go. It stays away from too many layers and works wonders for fine hair. 2018 is seeing a comeback for the middle part, but a classic side part makes this haircut look simple and easy.

?        Low maintenance bangs. Shaggy bangs are coming out in full-force in 2018 because of their low maintenance styling and cool-girl look. The bangs that are coming back in style are no longer the blunt or full-fringe. Instead, we’re seeing a little wispier and a slight part in the middle.

?        New shag. In 2017 we saw the shag haircut start to become popular and it is not going to slow down in 2018. This look is all about natural textures and easy styling

There are so many more hair trends coming for 2018, but the important thing to keep in mind is that your new look should center on ease of care and low maintenance while embracing your natural beauty.

Your normal hairstyle may be calm and safe, but when you go to that holiday party, command attention with a new style! You may think wearing a wig isn’t for you because you think it looks fake and people can tell you’re wearing one, but there are many reasons to be thankful for wigs. We’ve narrowed down all the reasons and here are the top 10 reasons wigs give us to be thankful:

Top 10 Reasons Wigs Give Us To Be Thankful

Beautification

The big reason we can be thankful for wigs is that they make us feel beautiful. If you’re self-conscious about your real hair and don’t feel beautiful with your real hair, a wig can easily change that. You can choose whatever style and color that makes you feel beautiful.

Hide Hair Loss

A big reason wigs are popular is because they help to hide any hair loss you might be suffering from. The hair loss can be from treatment for an illness or due to a hereditary factor, but whatever the reason, wigs are there to help you cover up your hair loss and keep you feeling confident.

Time Saver

Wearing a wig can save you an abundance amount of time. Instead of waking up earlier than normal to make sure you have time to style your hair, a wig is already set in the style you want. All you have to do is put it on.

Style Versatility

One of the biggest advantages of wearing wigs is that you have the ability to instantly change your hairstyle. You don’t have to wait for your hair to grow out to have long hair, you can just pick out a long-haired wig. There are hundreds of styles to choose from with different shapes, lengths, and sizes. You could have a different style for each day of the week.

Hide Premature Gray

If your hair is graying prematurely, and you’re tired of coloring it and the costs that come with constantly coloring it, maybe a wig is right for you. With a wig, you know that the color will never turn gray on you.

Cost Savings

If you used to spend a lot of time in a salon, you know that you’re thankful for your wig. Hair care and stylizing can become very costly, but once you start wearing wigs, that cost goes down exponentially.

Halloween Fun

If you’re experienced with wigs, you know that it can make or break the look you’re going for. The same goes for your Halloween look. Wigs can really bring together your whole costume.

Incognito

There are many reasons why you would need to go incognito, but you’re thankful that wigs can help you stay somewhat unrecognizable when you need it.

 Masquerade Balls

Masquerade balls are full of mystery and nothing says mystery more than you wearing a wig and changing your look that everyone is used to.

Entertainer or Performer

Many performers, entertainers, and celebrities wear wigs to enhance their looks. Wigs can help you change your public persona or character and make that transition easier.

Whatever your reason is for wearing a wig, there’s a lot to be thankful for. If you’re in need of a new wig or wig care, call the experts at Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique today at (215) 725-3930.

Getting your lace front wig positioned in the perfect place takes practice. More than practice though, it takes the right adhesive. Choosing the right adhesive can be difficult, but, thankfully, for lace front wigs there are two options for wig adhesive: tape and glue adhesives. If you’re asking how to choose the right adhesive for your lace front wig, here is a quick guide for both to help you decide.

How to Choose the Right Adhesive for your Lace Front Wig

Tape vs Glue Adhesives

Tape adhesives for lace front wigs are essentially double-sided tape, sticky on both sides, made specifically for wigs. One sticky side of the tape sticks to your lace front wig and the other sticky side attaches to your skin to hold the wig in place. As for glue adhesives for lace front wigs, they work along the same principle.

The wig-specific glue is applied to the edges of your lace front wig, then it needs to sit for a bit until it becomes tacky. Once the glue is tacky, you attach the glue edges to your scalp. Both adhesives are contact adhesives, meaning they contain ingredients that need to work properly when they come in contact with skin, including their durability, the dermatological impact on your skin, and the ease of their application. Soluble glue adhesives for lace front wigs can be water-based or solvent-based. Water-based adhesives are less invasive to the skin and don’t produce an allergic reaction. Solvent-based adhesives are harsher on the skin, but they may last longer than water-based adhesives.

To check if you’re going to have an allergic reaction to your adhesive, you can apply a small amount to your hand, let it dry for half an hour, then remove it. If the spot becomes red and itchy over the next 24 hours, you are allergic to that glue adhesive.

More than Just Adhesive

No matter which adhesive you decide to use, you need to realize that you’re going to need more than just the tape or the glue. Many adhesive kits come with the adhesive, scalp protectors, fray block, conditioner for the hair, and products that will help remove the adhesive from your scalp and wig. The best way to decide which adhesive works best for you is to try both and see which one feels more comfortable. To get more tips and information about lace front wig adhesives, call Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique today at 215-945-4900.

Wigs are an excellent option for women suffering from damaged hair or hair loss. Wigs not only help you feel beautiful, but more confident as well. With wigs, you can choose a different hairstyle for every occasion. The choices are unlimited! But you probably have one main wig that you wear a majority of the time. Wearing one wig all the time can cause some wear and tear so you ask yourself: “How can I extend my wig and make it last longer?” You’re in luck, because there are a few tricks and products you can use to extend the life of your wig before being forced to buy a new one:

How Can I Extend My Wig?

Knot Sealer

Most wigs are lace-front wigs which means the hairs are individually knotted and tied to the lace. Constantly wearing your wig creates friction on these knots: the wig cap rubbing against your scalp as you move around, putting your wig on and taking it off, etc. This friction causes the knots to loosen which then causes shedding. Shedding will result in gaps in your wig cap and alter the appearance of your wig. You can easily avoid this process with knot sealer. There are many options for knot sealer so talk to you wig expert at Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique for advice on which one is best for you and your wig.

Apple Cider Vinegar

No matter what type of wig or hair you have, apple cider vinegar is a great tool to keep your wig hair looking as pristine as the day you bought it. Apple cider vinegar works like silicon mix, just without the silicon. It seals the cuticles of the hair, keeps your hair soft, and tangle and frizz free.

Fray Block

The material of your wig cap will ultimately begin to fray as you wash it more often. Much like knot sealer, fray block will help keep your wig from fraying and unraveling too soon.

The most important thing to do to extend the life of your wig is to use proper wig care products. While your wig may seem like real hair, it is important to remember that it needs extra care. For more tips on how to extend your wig and keep it wearable for longer, call the experts at Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique today at 215-945-4900.

Synthetic wigs have many benefits and are good for a wide variety of reasons. They can help cover up thinning hair, hair loss from chemo treatments, or they can be used to help give you more confidence in your everyday life. Many synthetic wigs come with straight hair to make it easier for you to style, but sometimes a girl needs some curl! Adding curls can give your hair more volume and give you that girly feeling, but can you ever use a curling iron on a synthetic wig? With proper care, you’ll find that your synthetic wig will hold curls beautifully.

Can You Ever Use a Curling Iron on a Synthetic Wig?

Determine if Hair Can Be Curled

Before you just start curling your synthetic wig like you would real hair, you need to determine if your particular wig can in fact handle the heat from a curling iron. Every synthetic wig comes with a product label on the inside of the wig. The product label will tell you how much heat the synthetic hair of your wig can handle. If, after reading the product label, you are still unsure about how much heat your wig can handle, you can test a piece of hair to see if it melts. Choose a piece of hair that can easily be hidden just in case your curling iron does melt it. Many synthetic wigs today are made to be heat resistant in order to let styling be easier, but it is always a good idea to check before diving in to your styling.

How to Curl Your Synthetic Wig

Curling your synthetic wig is just like curling real hair. After you’ve determined the level of heat your synthetic hair can handle, divide your hair and portion it out. If you want small, tight curls, you’re going to want to divide your hair into a lot of sections. If you want bigger, looser curls, divide your hair into a few sections. Turn your curling iron on the lowest setting, which, in most cases, is the “warm” setting. Before curling a section of hair, you want to get it wet, but not to the point where it is dripping. Wetting your synthetic hair can help prevent it from melting and helps the hair hold the curl better. Continue until your whole synthetic wig is curled.

If you’re unsure about curling your own synthetic wig, you can call or stop by Rosalind Stella’s Wig Boutique and let our wig hairstyling experts take care of it. Our experts know everything about wigs and will be able to style and curl your synthetic wig with no problems. Give us a call today at 215-945-4900.
